Staring at a tiny screen on your phone while driving can be dangerous, but having the ability to make a hands-free call is a bonus. Thanks to the widespread use of live video streaming platforms and video chat apps, it has now become easier than ever to connect virtually with other people. However, there are quite a few things that you should be aware of before you start the call, whether you use Zoom or another platform.
Dos of Zoom Calls
- Do look for a video background that fits you
This past week I was asked to conduct a Zoom call for one of our clients. As I was setting up, I looked for a video or picture that would help me set the mood for the call. I found an awesome one! A person is sitting on a bench with a red fire truck in the background, which was perfect for the client’s location. I looked through my files and found another similar pic, but it didn’t have a fire truck in the background. So, I found a third pic that had both the truck and bench in the background; since the bench fit well into the scene, it worked well.
- Do invest in an internal microphone
Do Invest in an Internal Mic To Get Better Quality Of Voice On Calls: If you’re making a lot of calls on your smartphone, you are bound to hear Robo-voices from your caller. The best way to combat this is to invest in a good quality internal microphone that comes with a good external speaker.
- Do be sure your internet set-up is enough
For all of us who rely on our phones for everything from checking our bank balances to helping us to have a shower, finding the right mobile phone connection is important. It may well be that you’re in a position where you can’t get the signal you need or that you’ve recently moved and can’t get a signal – either way, choosing the right internet provider for your needs can make all the difference. But there are several things you need to take into consideration before choosing your internet provider. Perhaps to start off, you can explore different options on this link and see if you find any that can cover all your requirements.
Also, whenever an office meeting takes place either on Zoom call, Goto meets, or any other application, you can use the VPN so that no one can track your call. Also, it might protect your official data from getting breached. A VPN will prevent apps and websites from attributing your behavior to your computer’s ISP address. It can also limit the collection of your location and browser history. If you are using these applications on your laptop, primarily on web browsers like chrome or firefox, you must install a VPN for chrome. If you are not aware of the topic, you can directly surf the web with the questions like – how to add vpn in chrome, what are the benefits of installing a VPN on chrome, etc.
- Do consume time with the video setting
Take a look at the video settings of the zoom: the camera doesn’t just have a zoom, but also a focus, contrast, brightness, and even a mood-setting. Sometimes the camera can’t decide which setting works best and leaves you with a blurry mess. So what’s the best way to decide which setting you should use? Well, that depends on what you’re trying to shoot. A sharp, clear image is best for still photos. But if you’re shooting a video, there are several rules to consider.
Don’ts of Zoom Calls
- Don’t forget to charge the laptop fully
Today, I will try to convince you to fully charge your laptop before you go on a Zoom call. This is a lot easier said than done because I know a lot of you will have the exact opposite reaction that I do. While I am most definitely a “power user,” and I am sure you all are, too, I am also probably not a typical user. I work at my computer for long hours, and I am very productive in my workday. I work from home as well, so I am in and out of my computer a lot. In addition to that, I am also a person that does not charge my devices for a couple of days.
- Don’t do anything that would make you embarrassed
As a video chat app, Zoom’s primary purpose is to ensure that all parties involved in a call can see and hear each other. That’s a pretty basic scenario, and you can get away with poor video quality without risking the chance of an awkward situation. However, you’ll want to avoid any situation that makes you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed while communicating.
- Don’t forget to turn off the microphone if not speaking
Zoom is one of the better tools for conference calls, but it does have its limitations. For example, if you want to use Zoom to speak with a friend for a few minutes, you have first to unmute the microphone before you can do that.
- Don’t forget to turn on the microphone if you need to talk
If you’re on a call with someone and then want to speak with someone else, you have to unmute and unmute again before you can mute the microphone again.
Why are most people so uncomfortable being on the phone with a person over 100 feet away from them? Zoom calls can be a great tool for connecting with people all around the world, but they have some unique requirements that you should be aware of.
